Job summary

Young World Physical Education bus monitor position within Lewis Central Community School District involves assisting the school bus driver to ensure safe, orderly transportation for students. The role includes supervising students, aiding with loading/unloading, and supporting with safety and behavior management.

Requires high school diploma or equivalent, experience with children, and ability to follow district/state safety procedures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience working with children preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to manage student behavior in a calm and professional manner.
• Must meet all district and state background check requirements.

Responsibilities

• Reports to work on a regular and reliable basis.
• Assists the bus driver in maintaining a safe and orderly environment for students during transportation.
• Supervises student behavior on the bus and supports implementation of district discipline procedures.
• Collaborates with the bus driver to ensure student safety at all times; supports the driver so they can focus on safe vehicle operation.
• Assists students with loading and unloading the bus, including monitoring safe crossing procedures.
• Provides additional support to students with special needs, including assisting with seating, securement, and monitoring, as trained.
• Observes and reports student behavior concerns, safety issues, and incidents to the driver or transportation director and other appropriate school staff.
• Assists in emergency situations, including bus evacuations, following district and state safety procedures.
• Helps ensure students are seated properly and remain seated while the bus is in motion.
• May assist with securing wheelchairs, safety vests, or other specialized equipment as required.
• Maintains confidentiality of student information in accordance with district policies and applicable laws.
• Participates in required training, including safety procedures and student management techniques.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
