Job summary

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools seeks a lead bus driver for Non Instructional/Operations - Transportation to coordinate and drive school buses, ensuring safe, on-time student transportation daily.

Under supervision, you relay information to drivers, mentor substitutes, and help develop routes and TIMS coordination. Requires a HS diploma, CDL, 2+ years driving experience; 9-month term; open date 2026-10-08, close 2026-10-22.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must possess a CDL with School Bus Certification.
• Minimum of two years as a School Bus Driver required.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures.
• Communicate with bus drivers about department information and feedback.
• Respond to transportation concerns with school administration and parents.
• Distribute reports to school administration as appropriate.
• Assist OT and QST as requested.
• Assist with notification of substitute drivers.
• Monitor AM/PM bus runs and notify if a driver is late or absent.
• Know routes and ensure proper paperwork for each bus.
• Develop runs for buses with proper sequencing and TIMS compliance.
• Routinely ride with drivers to check routes.
• Monitor and evaluate pre/post-trip inspections, bus cleanings, and parking.
• Report unsafe conditions or mechanical issues to the area manager.
• Assist in investigation and resolution of transport service requests.
• Provide guidance and problem resolution for customers.
• Assist in training and safety meetings for drivers.
• Distribute and review information to bus drivers.
• Conduct follow-up road training before permanent assignments.
• Deliver buses to maintenance areas as needed.
• Drive any route in the absence of a driver, including field trips.
