Job summary

DATTCO in North Smithfield, RI is hiring a School Bus Monitor to assist students at each stop and support the driver on daily routes.

This role features split shifts AM and PM with hourly pay of $17–$19. Responsibilities include helping students enter and exit, supervising crossings, inspecting tires, and following safety procedures. Must be 16+ and able to pass required screenings and physical demands.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Must successfully complete pre-employment screenings including background checks and other policy-required checks.

Responsibilities

• At every stop, assist with street crossings for students.
• Assist students entering and exiting the bus.
• Check under and behind tires before re-entering the bus.
• Assist students with transportation plan accommodations.
• After each route, help the driver perform a spot check to ensure all students are off the bus.
• Assist in buckling children or safety equipment as required by safety laws.
• Assist in evacuations during emergencies.
• Follow the route directions as per a pre-determined sheet.

Responsibilities:

• At every stop, you will exit the bus and assist with street crossings for all students.
• Assist students entering and exiting the bus.
• Check under and behind tires before entering back onto the bus.
• Assist students with any other accommodation included in the students’ transportation plan.
• After the end of each school run, assist the driver in performing a spot inspection to make sure all students are off the bus.
• Assist in the buckling of children, or other safety equipment, as outlined by safety laws.
• Assist in the evacuation of children off the vehicle during emergency situations.
• Assist the driver with directions as defined by a pre-determined route sheet.

Requirements:

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Must successfully complete all required pre-employment screening, including state and national criminal background checks, registry checks, drug testing, and any other screenings required by law, Rhode Island DMV, school district policy, or DATTCO policy.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to enter and exit the vehicle repeatedly and perform required vehicle inspections.
• Ability to bend, kneel, reach, climb stairs, and use vehicle safety equipment.
• Ability to assist passengers during boarding, exiting, and emergency evacuations.
