Job summary

DS Bus Lines, INC. is hiring a School Bus Monitor in Basehor, KS. This part-time role features a consistent schedule with morning and afternoon routes from roughly 6:00 AM–9:00 AM and 2:00 PM–5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, requiring availability for both shifts.

You will assist students boarding and exiting the bus, support students with mobility needs and wheelchair accommodations, and help maintain a safe, positive bus environment while supporting the driver on route safety.

Qualifications

• Dependable and punctual.
• Comfortable working with children.
• Physically capable of assisting students as needed.

Schedule Required:

• Monday-Friday
• Morning Routes: Approximately 6:00 AM - 9:00 AM
• Afternoon Routes: Approximately 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM
• Must be available for BOTH AM and PM shifts

Make a Difference Every Day

As a School Bus Monitor, you'll play a vital role in helping students travel safely to and from school. This is an active, hands-on position where you'll assist students boarding and exiting the bus, support students with special transportation needs, and help maintain a safe, positive environment. This is more than just riding the bus. We're looking for attentive, engaged team members who are committed to student safety and ready to actively assist children throughout the route.

What You’ll Do

• Help students safely board and exit the bus
• Assist students with mobility needs and wheelchair accommodations
• Secure wheelchairs and safety restraints when required
• Maintain a safe and orderly environment on the bus
• Support the driver so they can focus on safe vehicle operation
• Conduct child checks at the end of each route
• Greet students and provide assistance as needed
• Ensure students arrive safely at their destination

Physical Requirements

• Kneel and secure wheelchair restraints
• Bend, stoop, and assist students as needed
• Ascend and descend school bus stairs
• Fasten safety equipment and secure students in seats
• Assist students during loading and unloading procedures
