Job summary

The Blake School is seeking a skilled bus mechanic to maintain and repair the school bus fleet, conduct preventive inspections, and manage parts purchasing. The role includes training transportation staff on pre-trip inspections and providing on-call backup driving when needed.

Ideal candidates will have strong diesel engine knowledge, the ability to handle multiple priorities, and basic computer skills to record maintenance data in Blake’s system.

Qualifications

• Experience with large diesel engines and school buses is preferred.
• Ability to prioritize and work under pressure.
• Strong mechanical problem-solving skills.
• Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Service school bus fleet with mechanical repair and replacement of parts.
• Purchase school bus parts to adequately supply needed repairs.
• Maintain inventory as needed.
• Coordinate and transport school buses for repair to and from vendor locations.
• Record all maintenance-related repairs and inspections of the bus fleet.
• Perform periodic inspections on buses.
• Train and evaluate transportation team members on pre-trip inspection procedures.
• Provide emergency backup bus driving services on an on-call basis.
• Other duties as assigned by the supervisor of transportation.
