HIRING SALARY RANGE:
$24.41 - $29.29 per hour

INCENTIVES:
Signing Bonus (paid after 30 days of employment):
- $2,000 – New full-time employee with Class B-P2 license, airbrake, and passenger endorsements
- $1,500 – New full-time employee with Class B and airbrake endorsement (no passenger endorsement)
- $1,000 – New full-time employee requiring CDL training
- $500 – Part-time employee with CDL
END-OF-YEAR BONUS:
- 5% of total hours worked multiplied by hourly rate upon successful completion of the school year
SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Year-Round School Bus Driver safely transports students to and from school, extracurricular activities, field trips, sporting events, special events, and other school-related activities. This is a full-time, year-round position responsible for providing safe, efficient, and timely transportation while maintaining a positive and secure environment for students.
During slower transportation periods, including school breaks and summer months, Year-Round School Bus Drivers may be assigned additional district support duties to maintain full-time, year-round hours. Work location, department assignment, supervisor, schedule, and duties may vary based on student transportation schedules and district operational needs.

Director of Transportation or assigned district supervisor
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Operate school buses and district vehicles in compliance with DOT regulations, Colorado Motor Vehicle Code, CDE Operational Rules, and district policies and procedures.
- Safely transport students to and from school, extracurricular activities, field trips, sporting events, special events, and other district activities.
- Safely operate vehicles under a variety of conditions, including mountainous terrain and adverse weather.
- Maintain responsibility for the safety and supervision of student passengers and enforce established student transportation and safety expectations.
- Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip inspections and promptly report vehicle maintenance needs or safety concerns.
- Perform basic vehicle care and maintain a clean, safe, and organized vehicle.
- Check students on and off the bus using the district's SMART tag system.
- Communicate effectively and promptly with students, parents, school staff, and transportation personnel regarding schedules, student needs, concerns, or changes.
- Make sound, independent decisions to ensure the safety of passengers, pedestrians, and property.
- Complete and submit required reports, route information, student counts, incident reports, logs, and other documentation accurately and on time.
- Successfully complete and maintain all required training, testing, licenses, endorsements, and certifications, including:
- Annual CDE written, driving, and pre-trip tests
- Annual Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) checks
- Mountain and adverse weather driving requirements
- Annual district and Transportation Department training
- Renew licenses, endorsements, and certifications as required by federal and state regulations.
- Maintain a working phone, reliable attendance, and accurate timekeeping.
- Represent the district in a professional manner and provide positive customer service to students, families, staff, and the community.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
YEAR-ROUND SUPPORT DUTIES
To maintain full-time hours during slower transportation periods, including school breaks and summer months, Year-Round School Bus Drivers may be temporarily assigned to support Transportation or other district departments based on operational needs.
Assigned duties may include:
- Custodial and general cleaning duties in district facilities.
- Lawn, grounds, and general exterior maintenance.
- Cleaning, organizing, and maintaining tools and equipment.
- Cleaning interior and exterior surfaces of district buildings and property.
- Washing, painting, and performing basic upkeep of district property.
- Cleaning and detailing district buses, vehicles, and equipment.
- Assisting Transportation, Facilities, Maintenance, Custodial, Grounds, or other district departments as assigned.
- Performing other related duties necessary to support district operations.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Ability to meet CDE character and entrance requirements.
- Ability to pass a DOT physical examination as required.
- Ability to meet DOT drug and alcohol screening requirements.
- Valid Colorado driver's license and ability to meet district insurance requirements.
- Ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check and maintain an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Colorado Class B CDL with required passenger and school bus endorsements through the district's training program (approximately 80 hours).
- Valid First Aid certification or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
- Ability to read, write, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English; bilingual Spanish preferred.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and composure in challenging situations.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn applicable school transportation safety regulations and traffic laws.
- Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, late afternoons, evenings, and occasional weekends as required for trips and activities.
- Ability and willingness to perform both transportation and non-driving duties throughout the calendar year.
- Ability to work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments and weather conditions as required by assigned duties.
