Job summary

La Mesa-Spring Valley School District is offering a Limited Term Bus Driver Trainee position. This paid training program provides classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel training to prepare for California school bus certification.

Participants will study the California Education curriculum, complete 20 hours of classroom and 20 hours of driving, with a training period of 8–12 weeks and the potential to apply to a permanent School Bus Driver role in the District.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school (or equivalent) and one year of experience operating a motor vehicle.
• Possess a Valid California Driver’s License and evidence of insurability.
• Pre‑employment and post‑employment clearances and health requirements as specified by the district.

Responsibilities

• Learn District policies and procedures for transportation employment.
• Assist with daily pre-trip inspections and school bus routing data collection.
• Learn to operate a school bus and transport students safely per regulations.
