Job summary

Rockbridge County Public Schools is seeking a Car Driver to transport students on regular routes, field trips, and activities. The role is part-time and on-site, reporting to the Chief Operations Officer in Administration.

The driver must maintain safety standards, assist students, and participate in required trainings. Responsibilities include pre/post-trip inspections, route adherence, incident reporting, and ensuring student safety and conduct.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid Virginia CDL with School Bus (S) and Passenger (P) endorsements required.
• Current School Bus Driver Certificate required.
• Current DOT physical exam conducted and approved.
• Ability to pass ongoing drug screening tests.
• Consistent, favorable driving record required.

Responsibilities

• Safely and timely transport students to and from school, field trips, and events.
• Assist students with boarding and exiting, including those with disabilities.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections daily and report issues.
• Follow routes, schedules, and district policies while ensuring safety.
• Respond to emergencies and administer basic first aid if needed.
• Maintain bus cleanliness and accurate mileage, fuel, and student counts.
