Job summary

RICE CISD is seeking a Bus Driver to ensure safe and orderly transportation of students on an assigned route. The driver operates a school bus, adheres to schedules, performs safety checks, and communicates with teachers and parents regarding student behavior.

Rand training and fingerprinting are required by Texas law; candidates must hold a valid CDL Class B and be capable of following written and verbal instructions while maintaining student safety and discipline.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age.
• Able to pass alcohol and drug tests.
• Complete required bus driver safety training.
• Follow written and verbal instructions.
• Communicate effectively.
• Knowledge of student discipline procedure.
• Ability to manage student behavior.
• Ability to operate bus.

Responsibilities

• Follow assigned route and adhere to schedules.
• Drive bus to and from extracurricular activities.
• Check bus for defects before and after operation; notify supervisor of repairs.
• Report accidents, vehicle damage, injuries, and mechanical failures; complete reports.
• Keep assigned bus clean and fueled.
• Supervise students boarding and exiting; communicate with teachers and parents about behavior.
• Maintain discipline; report problems to administrator.
• Instruct students on safe riding rules and regulations.
• Observe traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses.
• Inspect bus for fuel, oil, tires, lights, brakes, steering; ensure safe operation.
• Work irregular hours; complete required training to maintain safety certification.
• Keeps records on mileage, fuel, and passengers transported.
