Qualifications

• Possess CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements; self certify when renewing license.
• Pass a DOT school bus driver authorization card from the Department of Education.
• Maintain an acceptable driving record and knowledge of traffic laws and school bus regulations.
• Pass a DOT physical every two years and a pre-employment drug test.
• Must be physically capable of operating a school bus and assisting passengers in evacuations.
• New drivers must complete online New Driver Class within 6 months and a 3-hour face-to-face class.
• Drivers must complete a 3-hour annual training after initial six months.
• Must clear criminal and child abuse background checks.
• High school diploma or equivalent; training as appropriate.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Preferred experience in transportation services.

Responsibilities

• Drives according to state laws and district policies.
• C conducts pre-trip inspection and maintains bus interior.
• Responds to emergencies following district procedures.
• Supervises and maintains order according to policy.
• Completes required training and maintains certifications as required by law.
• Completes all required reports on time as prescribed.
• Contacts parents before the school year and maintains communication with students, parents, and staff.
• Maintains a consistent schedule and reports changes to transportation supervisor.
• Ensures bus is fueled and oil levels are maintained before each run.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
