Job summary

Waller Independent School District Transportation Department in Waller, Texas is seeking a Driver in Training. Starting date is immediate, with CDL required within 90 working days and a 1-year driving commitment after CDL completion. Training will cover safe operation of school buses and related equipment to transport students on routes and designated locations.

Salary is listed at $20.39 per hour, with nonexempt status. Reports to the Director of Transportation. Dept./School: Transportation.

Qualifications

Clear and valid Texas commercial driver’s license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements
Must be 21 years of age
Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam
Ability to complete required bus driver safety training
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Ability to use maps and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) to follow routes and locate addresses
Ability to manage student behavior
Ability to communicate effectively with others
Ability to operate bus

Responsibilities

Drive the bus daily following the assigned route and adhering to established schedules.
Drive bus to and from extracurricular activities.
Anticipate problems such as traffic, weather, road conditions, and schedule changes and make necessary adjustments.
Perform pre- and post-trip inspections and notify supervisor of needed repairs.
Instruct students on safe entering/exiting and supervise boarding and crossing the street.
