Job summary

The Harker School in San Jose, CA is seeking a School Bus Driver to ensure the safe transportation of students, parents, and staff to and from campus, events, and field trips. This full-time role involves operating school vehicles, performing pre-trip inspections, and enforcing safety policies with professionalism and care.

Candidates must have a minimum of 12 months of school bus driving experience and be at least 25 years old.

Qualifications

• Minimum 12 months of school bus driving experience.
• Age 25 or older (insurance requirement).
• CA Class A or B license with P&S endorsements and air brakes.
• Special Driver Certificate for type 1 bus (and air brakes).
• Commercial Driver’s Medical Examiner’s Certificate required.
• ARC First Aid & CPR certification.
• Clean driving record; able to pass background checks, TB test, and DOT drug/alcohol testing.
• Knowledge of safe driving practices, California MV Code, and school transportation regulations.
• Ability to manage time, follow routes, and stay calm in emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Operate school buses along assigned routes and events/field trips.
• Conduct pre-trip inspections, routine fueling, and keep vehicles clean and safe.
• Escort and instruct children on safety practices; lead annual evacuation drills.
• Maintain order and enforce discipline policies respectfully.
• Provide first aid and emergency assistance when needed; participate in safety meetings and training.
