Job summary

ServingSchools in Skowhegan, ME is seeking a Custodian/Bus Driver to support safe student transportation and facility upkeep. Responsibilities include daily bus operations, building security, and routine cleaning, with established safety and regulatory compliance.

The role requires holding a valid CDL for the vehicle type, meeting FMCSA rules, and maintaining a clean driving record. Work supports district programs and student safety.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or HiSET required.
• Must pass physical, eye exam, hearing test, etc.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of fifty pounds and assist an injured student off the bus in an emergency.
• Must hold and maintain a valid commercial driver’s license for the vehicle type.
• Must comply with and meet all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
• Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
• Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record with a minimum of 3 years’ safe driving experience.
• Other qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Board.

Responsibilities

• Keep building and premises neat and clean; perform general maintenance and report major repairs.
• Open/close building; secure doors/windows; ensure lights off except safety needs.
• Raise and lower the United States flag per schedule.
• Daily bus area cleaning and sanitation; monthly electrical safety checks.
• Maintain inventory of supplies and requisition replacements.
• Move furniture/equipment within buildings as needed.
• Follow safety procedures and OSHA regulations.
• Keep bus clean and on schedule; conduct pre/post bus checks.
• Lead responsibly on out-of-district trips; ensure only authorized students ride.
• Adhere to bus rules and report accidents; notify authorities of issues.
• Ensure bus cameras work and communicate with school administration.
• Duties as assigned by Building Administrator or Support Services Manager.
