Job summary

American Leadership Academy-Johnston is seeking a School Bus Driver for the 2026-2027 school year. Candidates must be willing to undergo a background check and possess a CDL with S and P endorsements.

Responsibilities include safety, driving designated routes on schedule, transporting students and staff on trips, inspecting the bus daily, refueling, reporting issues, and maintaining discipline in line with WPA policies. Travel to and from various locations may be required.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid CDL with 'S' (School Bus) and 'P' (Passenger) endorsements.
• Current CDL with a good driving record.
• School Bus Driver Certification and CPR/First Aid Certification.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the safety of students and staff on all school activities.
• Safely drives a school bus on designated routes in accordance with time schedules.
• Transports students, teachers and others on field or activity trips.
• Inspects bus daily prior to transporting passengers; ensure it is clean and safe.
• Cleans and refuels bus as needed.
• Checks that a communication device is in proper working order before each trip.
• Reports mechanical deficiencies, traffic violations, or accidents promptly.
• Arranges for routine maintenance and transports bus to/from facilities.
• Maintains order and discipline among students in accordance with WPA policies.
• Monitors route timing and ensures no child is left on bus without supervision.
• Keeps inventory of bus emergency and first-aid supplies; reports needs.
• In emergencies, evacuates children and follows medical procedures; attends trainings.

American Leadership Academy-Johnston is accepting applications for a School Bus Driver for the 2026-2027 school year. Candidates must be willing to undergo a background check.

Candidates must possess a Current Commercial Driver's License (CDL), with "S" School Bus and "P" Passenger Endorsements. Previous experience working as a bus driver for a school district is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Ensure the safety of students and staff on all school activities
• Safely drives a school bus on days when school is in session over designated routes in accordance with time schedules, loading and unloading students at designated locations
• Transports students, teachers and others on school field or activity trips
• Inspects assigned bus on a daily basis prior to transporting of passengers to ensure that bus is in good, clean and safe working order
• Cleans and refuels bus as needed
• Ensures that a communication device is in proper working order before each trip
• Reports all mechanical deficiencies, traffic violations, or accidents, promptly
• Arranges for and ensures completion of routine maintenance of bus (e.eg., oil change); transporting the bus to and from maintenance and/or repair facilities.
• Maintains order and discipline in an effective and courteous manner among students being transported in accordance with WPA policies and procedures; reports and incidents involving student discipline
• Observes and tracks route timing, such as total en-route, time between stops, loading and unloading times or any other requested information for the purpose of establishing route efficiency, as requested
• Follows procedures to ensure that no child is left alone on bus without adult supervision at any time, and that all children have departed bus at the end of all bus routes (morning, evening and during field trips or other special trips)
• Inventories bus emergency and first-aid supplies and equipment; reports need to the Director
• In case of accidents/emergencies, evacuates children according to written and practiced procedures, ensures that medical emergency procedures are followed; completes a written report as required. Attends and participates in trainings, and other continuing education, career and professional development opportunities. Travel to and from school district buildings, to vehicle service stations, field trip locations and other destinations are required.

Certification/License:

• Valid Driver's License with good driving record
