Ability to obtain CDL Class B driver's license with passenger and school bus endorsements with current school bus physical. (Bloomington Schools will assist)
Job Description
- Insure the safety, welfare, and appropriate conduct of passengers on the vehicle.
- Operate the vehicle with care to ensure efficiency. Conduct a complete daily pre‑trip inspection of the bus and any special equipment. Keep the inside of the bus clean and free of debris (fuel, sweep, and empty trash after each trip).
- Ability to drive your charter / trip in any bus as directed by Dispatch
- Able to read maps and/or follow driving directions
- Follow trip copies precisely
- Report on time for all assigned duties
- Deliver outstanding service to:
- Students
- Parents
- School staff
- Transportation co‑workers
- Law enforcement officials
- Show courteous behavior to the driving public
- Follow operational procedures in emergency situations. Be aware of these procedures and participate in safety events or evacuation drills.
- Complete required paperwork and submit in a timely manner (pre‑trip log, mileage, maintenance, accident, and discipline reports as required and/or requested).
- Participate in ongoing training and attend annual evaluations.
- Ensure all rules, laws, and policies set by the Minnesota Department of Transportation and the Bloomington School District are strictly adhered to.
Physical Requirements
- Pre‑trip vehicle inspection: lifting hood, climbing and reaching to inspect engine area, bending and squatting to inspect tires, walking up and down aisle to check seats and exits. Requires periods of exposure to elements.
- Continued braking, accelerating, steering, and operation of service doors and controls while driving.
- Capable of lifting and dragging students in case of an emergency (ranging in weight from a small child to full adult weight).
- Exposure to road dust, occasional fuel and exhaust fumes.
Qualifications
- Applicant must be a high school graduate or hold a GED, enjoy working with children and have a valid driver's license for at least 1 year with a good driving record. Prefer individuals with a Class B CDL, School bus, and Passenger endorsements.
- Individuals that are able to work AM and PM and have flexible schedules.
