Qualifications

• Must possess or qualify for licensure with the Virginia Board of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology.
• Preferred – Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA.
• Ability to design, implement and evaluate a comprehensive program for the educational needs of students.
• Knowledge of local, state, and national regulations relative to speech-language impairment.
• Proficiency in public speaking and written communication to express and/or exchange ideas.
• Proficiency in instructional technology and AAC systems.
• Ability to work independently and maintain good working relationships with students, families and staff.

Responsibilities

• Implement screening and referral procedures to identify students needing speech-language evaluation.
• Conduct thorough speech and language evaluations for eligibility determinations.
• Share reports and recommendations with the eligibility committee and participate in determinations.
• Develop and maintain IEPs with goals, therapy, records, and progress reporting.
• Collaborate with school staff, attend meetings, and provide in-service education.
• Maintain confidentiality and protect students, equipment and facilities.
• Maintain appropriate state licensure and billing Medicaid for services rendered.
• Ensure awareness of deadlines for billing, eligibility, IEP completion and progress reports.
