Job summary

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited college or university.
• Valid Texas license as a speech-language pathologist granted by the State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (SBESLPA).
• One year supervised clinical speech-language pathology experience.

Responsibilities

• Plans and provides appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech and language goals contained in IEPs.
• Evaluates student progress and determines readiness for termination of therapy services.
• Conducts independent evaluations to assess students with speech or language disorders.
• Develops clinical management strategies or procedures and diagnostic statements by interpreting observations or data.
• Participates in the ARD Committee to assist in interpretation of assessment data and placement.
• Counsels and involves parents in remedial process.
• Collaborates with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom activities to improve communication skills.
• Provides professional development in assigned schools to help staff identify communication deficits.
• Communicates effectively with colleagues, students, and parents regarding therapy goals and student needs.
• Creates an environment conducive to learning and manages student behavior.
• May supervise licensed speech-language pathology assistants or aides.
• Develops and coordinates evaluation of services and makes changes based on findings.
• Assists in selecting equipment and instructional materials.
• Compiles and files reports, records, and other required documents.
• Maintains compliance with district policies, state rules, and records retention schedules.
