Background and Overview

The Office of Social Work supports school-based Social Workers district-wide by offering high-quality, culturally responsive services, consultation, professional development, and crisis response.

Position Summary and Responsibilities

We seek an exceptional School Based Social Worker to support behavioral health initiatives, including trauma response, recovery, healing, and resiliency-focused services. The role involves:

• Providing individual and group counseling and assessments
• Crisis intervention and response
• Managing caseloads and coordinating referrals
• Partnering with students and families

The Social Worker will collaborate with school teams, support data collection, and participate in professional development to ensure service quality and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate and participate in the Student Success Team
• Establish and monitor Multi-tiered System of Support (MTSS)
• Attend monthly professional development sessions
• Provide direct services including counseling, crisis intervention, and assessments
• Support school climate strategies and external referrals
• Maintain data and documentation

Qualifications - Required

• Master's Degree in Social Work or Counseling
• MA DESE School Social Worker/School Adjustment Counselor License
• Licensed Social Worker (LCSW or LICSW) or Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) or eligibility
• Minimum 3 years of urban setting experience providing clinical services
• Ability to meet BPS Standards of Effective Practice
• Strong interpersonal skills and cultural humility
• Authorization to work in the U.S. by first day of employment

Qualifications - Preferred

• Prior school-based experience
• Knowledge of Special Education policies
• Fluency in BPS official languages (Spanish, Creole, Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, Somali)
• Certification in Safety Cares de-escalation and restraint
