Job summary

Strides Therapy & Educational Services in Anchorage, AK seeks an in-person School Psychologist on a contract basis to provide comprehensive psychological services in a school setting.

Responsibilities include evaluations, consultations, and interventions to support students’ academic, social, emotional, and behavioral well-being, collaborating with educators and families while maintaining regulatory standards.

Qualifications

  • Master's or Doctoral degree in School Psychology from a NASP-approved/accredited program.
  • Valid AK state license or certification as a School Psychologist.
  • Experience with data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Experience with psychological testing, counseling, and intervention techniques.

  • Conduct psychological assessments to determine cognitive, emotional, and behavioral needs.
  • Collaborate with educators, parents, and staff to develop IEPs and BIPs.
  • Provide counseling and interventions to support students’ mental health.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams to address academic and behavioral challenges.
  • Offer consultation and training to staff on strategies to improve learning environments.

Position Overview:


We are seeking a dedicated, empathetic, and experienced in-person School Psychologist to join our team on a contract basis. As a School Psychologist, you will provide comprehensive psychological services to students, collaborate with educators and families, and contribute to fostering a healthy learning environment. You will work in a school setting, offering evaluation, consultation, intervention, and prevention services that support students' academic, social, emotional, and behavioral well‑being.


Responsibilities:


  • Conduct psychological assessments and evaluations to determine students' cognitive, emotional, and behavioral needs.

  • Collaborate with educators, parents, and school staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs).

  • Provide counseling and interventions to support students' emotional and mental health needs.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams to address students' academic and behavioral challenges.

  • Offer consultation and training to school personnel on strategies to improve learning environments and student outcomes.

  • Promote positive mental health through prevention programs, crisis intervention, and school-wide initiatives.

  • Maintain accurate and confidential records in compliance with state and federal regulations.


Additional Details:

In-person only



  • Must reside within 45 minutes of the school district

  • Certification as a School Psychologist by the Alaska Department of Education

  • Experience in data collection, analysis, and interpretation

  • Experience with positive behavior support and with universal strategies on how to support students with behavioral concerns

  • Experience in the administration and interpretation of a variety of assessments

  • Knowledge of Special Education Law as outlined within the Alaska Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE)

  • Proven ability to develop modifications and accommodations for the general education curriculum

  • Experience and training in administering and interpreting psychological evaluations within an educational setting

  • Proven track record of the ability to develop and maintain positive, approachable, and acceptable relationships with school staff, parents, building administrators, and community agencies


Essential Duties and Responsibilities not limited to:


  • Conducts extensive psychological evaluations of students

  • Increase achievement by assessing barriers to learning and determining the best instructional strategies to improve learning

  • Evaluate eligibility for special education services (within a multidisciplinary team)

  • Support effective individualized instruction

  • Collect data and provide systematic observations for students experiencing challenges in the school setting.

  • Make referrals and participate in the coordination of community support services

  • Member of school support teams

  • Participates as a crisis team member and provides crisis intervention for students and staff in the event a situation is warranted

  • Stays current on new developments in the field of education

  • All other duties assigned


Qualifications:


  • Master's or Doctoral degree in School Psychology from a NASP-approved/accredited program

  • Valid AK state license or state department of education certification as a School Psychologist.

  • Educator Certificate (if applicable)

  • Prefer experience working as a School Psychologist in a school setting.

  • Prefer knowledge of state and federal special education laws and regulations.

  • Strong skills in psychological testing, counseling, and intervention techniques.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Commitment to cultural competence and diversity.

  • Passion for working with children and adolescents in educational settings.

  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and adapt to changing needs


Other Requirements:


  • Type C School Psychologist Licensure through the Alaska Board of Education.
