Job summary

Alabaster City Schools is seeking an Occupational Therapist to provide educationally related therapy to disabled students, conducting evaluations and developing IEP/504-based therapy goals, and collaborating with school staff. The role requires licensure and a bachelor's degree or higher.

The position entails training staff, monitoring progress, maintaining records, and coordinating with families and physicians to support student progress in a nine-month contract.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in OT or related field.
• Current Alabama state licensure to practice Occupational Therapy.

Responsibilities

• Provide a thorough evaluation of students' physical/motor handicaps and needs.
• Prepare and implement therapy program to achieve educational goals and objectives as outlined in IEP or 504 Plan.
• Train other school personnel to assist in implementation and monitoring of therapy program activities.
• Maintain current and accurate data required for students’ files.
• Participate in Eligibility Determination Committee and 504 meetings as requested by supervisor.
• Monitor and maintain departmental therapy equipment and supplies used in therapy program.
• Attend staff meetings as scheduled by supervisors.
• Submit requested information to supervisor in timely manner.
• Participate in IEP conferences and other conferences as necessary.
• Communicate with local school staff regarding students’ therapy programs and any modifications of assistance.
• Maintain communication with parents, physicians and other caregivers regarding student needs, progress and program.
• Inform supervisor immediately of problems and/or sensitive situations.
• Keep informed of new developments in the profession via professional development and maintain licensure.
• Assist in assessing facilities regarding accessibility for physically challenged students.
• Be regular and punctual in attendance.
