Job summary

Elwyn seeks an Occupational Therapist to provide school-based OT services to students under their IEPs, conducting evaluations, assessments, and data-driven planning to support fine and gross motor, perceptual, cognitive, and sensory integration skills. Collaboration with classroom staff and families is essential.

Responsibilities include planning individualized activities, writing reports, and ensuring PDE-compliant documentation and progress monitoring within a team-driven environment.

Qualifications

  • Commonwealth of Pennsylvania OT license required.
  • Newly licensed graduates considered.
  • Non-profit human service experience highly preferred.
  • Experience working with both verbal and nonverbal students (ages 3–21) in Autism Support, Emotional Support and Life Skills Support programs.
  • Knowledge of OT assessment tools and reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent judgment and problem-solving abilities with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Provide OT services to assigned students in a school-based setting, coordinating with classroom staff to design individualized activities aligned with IEP goals.
  • Conduct evaluations and assessments and contribute to IEP development and data collection.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to implement OT interventions.
  • Review data and participate in pre-IEP and IEP meetings to identify needs and plan goals.
  • Perform assessments such as sensory profiles and motor proficiency tests using PDE-aligned procedures.

Job Description

Elwyn seeks an Occupational Therapist to provide occupational therapy (OT) services to students as indicated in their Individualized Education Program (IEP). This includes conducting evaluations, assessments, analyzing data, writing reports, and determining the strengths and areas of concern or need in fine and gross motor skills, perceptual, cognitive and sensory integration, and activities of daily living to assist students in accessing their educational program.


Duties & Responsibilities


  • Provide OT services to assigned students in a school-based setting utilizing an integrated model by working with the classroom staff to instruct, develop and practice by planning activities individualized for the skill level of the students to target goal-specific skills identified in the IEP

  • Provide treatment in perceptual and motor activities, manipulative and ambulatory skills, proper posturing, aquatic therapy, Activities of Daily Living (ADL) adaptation to activities and physical environments, etc. to access the student’s educational program

  • Provide direct and indirect OT services through individual OT sessions and a collaborative model of consultation with the teacher, parent and other related service providers (IEP Team)

  • Participate in data review Pre-IEP and IEP meetings by identifying skill deficits, recommending assessment needs, consulting with and assisting the IEP team, including teacher, clinicians, parents, school districts, in the development of the OT goals

  • Conduct evaluations including but not limited to sensory profiles, Visual Motor Integration (VMI), Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency-2 (BOT-2), formal and informal assessments, etc. utilizing the established Re-evaluation Report (RR) process to identify OT needs

  • Provide materials, training and staff in-service regarding OT needs of the varied student population

  • Complete all documentation and/or share recommendations related to IEP development, progress monitoring and data collection, Re-evaluation Reports (RR), Behavioral Support Plans (BSP), School-Wide Positive Behavioral Intervention Systems (SWPBIS), and Extended School Year (ESY) Program, as required by Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) regulations and sending-district’s policy and funding requirements

  • Adhere to PDE established timelines relating to all required documentation

  • Adhere to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the State Board of Occupational Therapy Education and Licensure

  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and crisis intervention using agency-trained protocols

  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Knowledge of principles, techniques, and equipment used in direct and consultative OT services

  • Demonstrate knowledge of current diagnostic and assessment tools available for use with students with OT needs.

  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education and other professional growth activities

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage and prioritize multiple, often competing, priorities

  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail

  • Demonstrated strong time management and organizational skills

  • Demonstrated excellent judgment with the ability to independently solve problems and make decisions with little or no need for direct supervision

  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate future needed changes or identify problem areas and take effective actions

  • Must be able to perform CPR using agency-trained protocols

  • Must possess excellent customer interaction, collaboration, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated intermediate experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; report-writer experience preferred

  • Experience using/knowledge of electronic student and/or health records preferred
