Job summary

Alabaster City Schools seeks a Mental Health Coordinator to lead and coordinate the district's school-based mental health program. The role delivers counseling, crisis intervention, and referrals to promote students’ academic and social-emotional success.

The incumbent will work with families, teachers, and community resources to integrate social-emotional learning into classrooms and participate in IEP/504 processes as needed.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in social science or mental health counseling (or related clinical field).
• Valid state certification/license.
• Experience in a school setting.
• Experience providing mental health services to children.
• Experience in individual, group and family counseling, case management; utilizing community resources.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Passion for serving at-risk students.
• Excellent organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of crisis prevention, intervention, and management.
• Ability to establish credibility with all constituents, manage sensitive issues, and work with all levels of the organization.
• Meet suitability criteria under relevant child protection laws.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications may be required by state/local law.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals and priorities.
• Coordinates the school-based mental health program.
• Develops and facilitates parent programs, classes, and workshops.
• Provides counseling, referrals, and intervention services to promote students' academic and social/emotional success.
• Provides crisis intervention to students and families.
• Engages students and families in the services offered.
• Identifies situations affecting schooling and relevant behaviors.
• Examines social issues impacting students such as peer pressure and bullying.
• Integrates social-emotional learning into the classroom.
• Assists administrators and staff in crisis situations as needed.
• Serves as liaison for community resources.
• Makes home visits as needed.
• Participates in IEP or 504 team meetings when requested.
• Maintains documentation of services provided.
• Adheres to professional ethics and policies.
• Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).
