Job summary

Cummins Behavioral Health Systems, Inc. is seeking a dedicated School-Based Life Skills Specialist to work with school-aged students, supporting social, emotional, and behavioral development.

Role includes collaborating with school staff and families to empower students and improve well-being. The position is based in Putnam County (Greencastle, IN) with school-day responsibilities and possible after-school/home sessions to meet student needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, or related human services field required.
• Associate's degree in human services or related field with at least 2 years direct care experience in social services, behavioral health, or school-based settings.
• High school graduate or GED with at least 4 years direct care experience in social services, behavioral health, or school-based settings.
• Two years of post-bachelor's work experience in mental health preferred.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging life skills interventions and strategies on topics such as communication, self-management, decision-making, conflict resolution, and self-regulation.
• Provide individual and family sessions to support students in developing essential life skills.
• Primarily work with students during the school day in the classroom or school office; before/after school and early evening hours may be used for home or school-based visits.
• Collaborate and regularly communicate with teachers, counselors, and school administrators to identify and address student needs.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and program outcomes within an electronic health record.
• Serve as a liaison between schools, families, and community resources to connect students and families with additional support services.
• Schedule and location of services may vary during school break times to accommodate students and families.
• Promote a positive, inclusive environment that fosters student growth and well-being.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, Sociology or related human services field

Associate's degree in human services or related field with 2+ years direct care experience

High school diploma or GED with 4+ years direct care experience

Two years post-bachelor's work experience in mental health (preferred)

In this role, you will work directly with school‑aged students to provide life skills education and support, fostering social, emotional, and behavioral development. By collaborating with school staff and families, you will play a vital role in empowering students to overcome challenges and achieve their full potential. Currently, open position(s) exist in Putnam County (Greencastle, IN).

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, or a related degree in the human service field is required.
• Associate's degree in human services or related field and at least (2) years previous direct care experience in social services, behavioral health, school‑based settings, etc.;
• High school graduate or GED and at least four (4) years previous direct care experience in social services, behavioral health, school‑based settings, etc.
• Two years of post‑bachelor's work experience in mental health is preferred.
