Job summary

The Department of Education of the City of New York seeks a Diabetes Staff Nurse Educator to provide professional nursing and diabetes education to nurses and to develop, implement, and evaluate the diabetes nursing regimen for prescribed diabetes treatment. This role trains OSH nurses and works with regional supervisors to support schools without a regular nurse.

It serves as a resource to nurses, students, and school staff, developing policies, training materials, and collaborative programs

Qualifications

Valid NYS RN license.
Bachelor’s degree in nursing or health-related field strongly preferred.
CDNE credential or ability to obtain diabetes nurse educator certification within two years preferred.

Responsibilities

Develops and implements individual treatment plans for students needing diabetes care.
Develops and presents diabetes management lessons with paraprofessionals to support students in the least restrictive environment.
Provides annual and refresher training as well as student-specific training to nurses, paraprofessionals, and other staff.
Reviews medical and health records of students receiving diabetes care for data completion.
Identifies nurses and schools lacking a regular nurse to provide diabetes care training and interventions.
Develops relationships with insulin/diabetes technology representatives to support staff.
Serves as liaison between providers, families, and schools regarding diabetes management.
