Job summary

Valley Youth House in Bethlehem (East Penn SD) is seeking a School Based Counselor to deliver evidence-based curricula and direct services within the school setting.

This full-time, school-year role requires a master’s degree in counseling and license eligibility, with strong documentation and collaboration with the team. The position emphasizes student engagement, family involvement, and adherence to program timelines.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in counseling or related human services; license-eligible in some schools.
  • Demonstrated maturity, sound judgment, and positive role modeling.
  • Clearances for criminal, child abuse, FBI, and National Sex Offender checks; motor vehicle.
  • Ability to walk and climb stairs; capable of working in loud environments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide billable services (60%) using evidence-based curricula within school.
  • Direct services to students and families and engage them in treatment.
  • Regularly meet with supervisor to review caseload and progress.
  • Attend team meetings and professional development.
  • Complete clinical documentation in electronic health record timely.
  • Administer clinical assessments and document per timelines.
  • Complete program/grant paperwork promptly.

School Based Counselor

Position: FT- School Year - School Based Counselor ($28hr to $30hr)

Location: Bethlehem (East Penn SD)

Essential Functions of the School Based Counselor
  • Spend a minimum of 60% of time providing billable services related to identified evidence-based curriculums within the school setting.
  • Spend at least half of time worked providing direct services to students and/or their family members and successfully engaging them in the treatment process.
  • Meet regularly with the assigned supervisor to review current caseload and discuss progress or regression, as per program guidelines.
  • Attend and actively engage in team meetings and professional development opportunities as assigned.
  • Complete and submit to the electronic health record all required clinical documentation in a professional manner and within the established program expectations and timeframes.
  • Administer assigned clinical assessments to all students on the caseload and complete subsequent dictation according to established program time frames and protocols.
  • Complete other assigned paperwork for the program and/or grant funding in a timely manner.
Minimal Qualifications for the School Based Counselor
  • Possess at least a master’s degree in a counseling or related human services discipline. Some schools require school-based therapists to be license-eligible.
  • Be a mature individual with sound judgment and serve as an appropriate role model to staff, youth, and families.
  • Complete all required program trainings upon hire and as required.
  • Never convicted of any child abuse offenses and have clear criminal, child abuse, FBI and National Sex Offender clearances; must pass the annual motor vehicle clearance.
  • Have the ability to walk and climb flights of stairs at times.
  • Be able to work in a loud or distracting environment.
Physical Requirements of the School Based Counselor
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
  • Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Medium work that includes moving objects up to 50 pounds.
