Job summary

Applewood Centers, Inc. is seeking a School Based Intern to provide assessments, psychotherapy, and TBS within school settings and in-home as needed in the Cleveland, OH area.

The role emphasizes collaboration with families, school personnel, and community partners to support student wellness and progress. The intern will deliver individual and group counseling, participate in crisis planning, and help develop and monitor treatment plans while meeting university field experience targets each

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; must be enrolled in an accredited MSW, Counseling, or Marriage and Family Therapy program.
• Valid Ohio Trainee license (Social Work Trainee, Counselor Trainee, or MFT Trainee) or higher, must be in process before billing services.
• Independent judgment and initiative with strong collaboration in a professional team.
• Cultural competency with diverse individuals and communities.
• Clear verbal, nonverbal, and written communication in a professional context.
• Adheres to ethical standards and agency policies; strong teamwork abilities.
• Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and driving record meeting underwriting criteria.

Responsibilities

• Provide psychotherapy, TBS, and consultation based on client needs.
• Carry out assessments and develop Individual Treatment Plans with ongoing evaluation.
• Interview clients to collect information for client records and planning.
• Develop and coordinate measurable ITPs aligned with client and family needs.
• Collaborate with families to develop crisis plans and provide crisis coaching as needed.
• Help clients and families build skills to improve family functioning and relationships.
• Provide supportive services to clients and school staff as requested.
• Meet productivity expectations for school-based intern staff and complete documentation timely.
• Close cases with discharge and aftercare plans per policy; maintain collaborative relationships with supports.
• Consult with school staff regarding treatment planning and progress; provide mental health training to teachers.
• Travel to school sites and perform in-home visits as required; evening appointments may be needed.
