Job summary

Muskegon Area Intermediate School District in Michigan seeks a Behavior Consultant to lead behavioral interventions and coach school staff toward positive classroom environments.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in special education, School Social Work or School Psychology.
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate or SSW/School Psychologist licensure.
  • Minimum of five years experience in an educational setting.
  • Experience in the area of behavior support.
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
  • Enthusiastic, innovative, independently motivated and capable of meeting challenges and deadlines.
  • Solid interpersonal skills with strong written and verbal skills.
  • No physical or mental restrictions that would, with reasonable accommodation, prevent performance of essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide side‑by‑side coaching, in‑classroom support, and modeling for teachers to implement proactive behavior prevention strategies and universal classroom management techniques.
  • Guide and support school staff through the general education Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) and Positive Behavior Support Plan (PBSP) processes.
  • Provide specialized consultation for students who do not currently have an IEP but exhibit intensive behavior needs.
  • Partner with the Special Education Behavior Consultants to serve teams supporting students with intensive behaviors as needed.
  • Collaborate with the MTSS team to build a proactive educator support framework, delivering Tier 2 and 3 behavioral supports to general education students to reduce special education referrals and prevent restrictive placements.
  • Coordinate and facilitate county‑wide parent training programs and resource offerings, such as Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Families (TCIF), to align behavioral supports between home and school.
