Job summary

AHRC New York City is seeking a Special Education School Age Teacher Assistant for Staten Island Preparatory. This full-time role runs Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–3:00 PM, with a 10‑month program and a 30‑day summer session.

Responsibilities include assisting the teacher in daily activities, implementing lesson plans, and supporting socialization and classroom routines. The position requires NYS Teaching Assistant Certification Levels I-III and education at AA/60 credits or BA/MA.

Qualifications

• NYS Teaching Assistant Certification Levels I-III required.
• Education: AA with 60 credits or B.A. or M.A.
• Salaries commensurate with education attainment.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher in daily activities in a school age Special Education classroom.
• Participate in the implementation of daily schedule/lesson plans aligned to NYS Prekindergarten/ Common Core Standards, informed by assessment data.
• Demonstrate teaching techniques, including prompting, pacing and reinforcement strategies, and address behavioral considerations.
• Implement strategies to facilitate generalization of concepts and promote socialization.
