This part‑time role requires punctuality, attendance at trainings, and adherence to YMCA policies, with a focus on confidentiality and respectful communication with parents and staff.

Qualifications

• Must be a minimum of 16 years old.
• Experience working with children ages 5-18 preferred.
• Knowledge of age appropriate practices for working with children grades K-5.
• Maturity to make practical decisions under the direct supervision of other staff.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
• Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens.

POSITION SUMMARY

The School Age Program/Summer Day Camp Program Aide (PA) helps provide direction to program participants, supports in behavior management as well as participates in age-appropriate program activities. The PA Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. The program Aide may never be alone with children and is always under the direct supervision of a PL, AD or Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Under direct supervision of another staff person, supports in running program activities, positively interacting with children, guiding children towards positive behavior choices and supports in the set up and overall care of the program site.
• Adheres to program standards including safety, licensing and health department standards.
• Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
• Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
• Maintains confidentiality of YMCA issues, incidents and records
• Be on time for all shifts; be flexible to accommodate unexpected schedule changes, including full days.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings (completes all training home requirements).
