Responsibilities

Manage a counseling caseload through individual and group counseling services tailored to students’ social-emotional needs
Develop, implement, and monitor Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) interventions and behavior support plans
Work with families, teachers, administrators, and community partners to coordinate care and improve student outcomes
Establish and maintain comprehensive records of counseling services, assessments, and referrals
Maintain compliance with state and district protocols regarding mandated reporting, confidentiality, and student safety.
Ensure timely crisis response, risk assessments, safety planning, and coordination with mental health providers.
Support school-wide SEL initiatives, restorative practices, and positive behavior systems.
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, including IEP, 504, and SIT processes.
Provide consultation to staff regarding student behavior, trauma-sensitive practice, and classroom interventions.
Assist in transition planning for students returning from hospitals, placements, or extended absences.
Coordinate and support the comprehensive districtwide wraparound services program for students and families.
Serve as the district liaison with community agencies, mental health providers, healthcare organizations, social service agencies, and family support organizations.
Coordinate referrals to community resources, including: Mental health counseling; Food assistance; Housing supports; Medical services; Substance abuse treatment; Family stabilization services; Transportation assistance.
Build and maintain partnerships with local, regional, and state agencies to expand available services.
Coordinate district participation in community resource initiatives and collaborative partnerships.
Support families in navigating insurance, community services, and available resources.
Monitor service utilization and identify gaps in community supports.
Assist schools in developing intervention plans for students experiencing significant social, emotional, behavioral, attendance, or family challenges.

General Responsibilities:

The School Adjustment Counselor / District Wraparound Services Coordinator provides comprehensive social-emotional, behavioral, and mental health services to students while coordinating districtwide wraparound supports that connect students and families with community resources. This is a full-time position with the counselor expected to work a school-year (183 days) schedule plus an additional 10 days. This position is split equally between elementary direct school-based counseling services (approximately 50%) and the development, coordination, and oversight of district wraparound services (approximately 50%). The position plays a critical role in removing barriers to learning, improving attendance and engagement, supporting student well-being, and strengthening partnerships between schools, families, and community agencies. This position focuses on counseling, crisis intervention, behavioral planning, and student advocacy. The counselor is also responsible for collaborating with school teams, supporting positive school climate, and ensuring compliance with district protocols and state regulations.

Working Conditions:

Primarily school-based work involving frequent student interaction along with parents, agencies, and other community members.
Occasional exposure to emotionally intense situations and crisis events.
Requires the ability to respond quickly, manage confidential information, and engage in de-escalation.
Work hours follow the school day with occasional evening or weekend obligations (family meetings, professional development, crisis response).

Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) Classification:

Exempt (Professional Employee – not eligible for overtime compensation)
