Job Description:

The University at Albany is seeking applications for a tenure-track Scholarly Communication Librarian at the rank of assistant or senior assistant librarian. This role involves developing and implementing scholarly communication strategies aligned with institutional priorities, leading the library's scholarly communication services, and fostering partnerships across campus and beyond.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Developing initiatives that promote open access, equitable knowledge sharing, and author rights.
  • Leading the Scholarly Communication Team.
  • Building collaborative relationships within the Libraries, the University, SUNY, and nationally.
  • Providing guidance on open access policies and compliance.
  • Consulting with faculty and students on publishing options and copyright issues.
  • Creating educational resources on scholarly communication topics.
  • Promoting services and increasing awareness of open publishing and author rights.
  • Supporting the use and contributions to the institutional repository.
  • Evaluating and improving scholarly communication services.
  • Contributing to the profession through scholarship and service.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited program by the application deadline.
  • Ability to foster inclusive and equitable relationships within a diverse campus community.
  • Experience providing scholarly communication services such as copyright consultation, open access, and publishing.
  • Experience leading teams or managing projects.
  • Experience developing guides and educating the campus community on scholarly communication topics.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • JD or advanced training in copyright law.
  • Experience with digital asset management and scholarly publishing tools.
  • Proficiency with web applications like LibGuides.
  • Experience with outreach, copyright, and intellectual property rights.
  • Knowledge of research open access policies.
Additional Information:

Salary range: $65,000-$70,000, at the rank of Senior Assistant Librarian (NSN3).
