Job summary

Charles River Laboratories is seeking a Scheduler I to join the ITox team at the Kansas City site. You will prepare, schedule, and distribute project plans across technical staff, coordinating capacity and training to meet deadlines.

The role requires a high school diploma/GED with 2+ years of relevant experience; a BA/BS in biological science is preferred. This position offers a salary range and growth opportunities at the site.

  • Schedule studies/staff based on operational departmental needs.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Job Overview

Charles River Laboratories (CRL) is seeking a Scheduler I to join our integrated toxicology (ITox) team at the Kansas City site. This site is the first of its kind, bridging CRL’s Discovery and Safety Assessment business units, while bringing automation to standard lead optimization toxicology study models to deliver rapid study results to our clients. When you join our team, you will have a significant impact on the health and well‑being of people across the globe.

As a Scheduler I, you will be responsible for preparing, scheduling, and distributing project plans across technical staff. You will communicate with functional area leaders to understand capacity needs, constraints, and planning. You will complete work independently and use assigned resources effectively to provide quality data and meet project deadlines. This role will not have direct reports but will act as a mentor to more junior technical staff in how they communicate and escalate scheduling concerns.

The pay range for this position is $65,000 - $75,000 USD/annually. Please note this range varies based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.

Job Description
  • Prepare, schedule, and distribute in‑life schedules and supplement work to peripheral departments (e.g., post‑life)
  • Coordinate all study‑specific activities for technical staff and communicate capacity constraints to line management.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of training for staff at the request and/or communication of in‑life specialists, leaders, and trainers.
  • Identify upcoming needs for intermediate to advanced technical skill attainment across relevant production areas. Coordinate with management, Study Directors, Veterinary staff, and subject matter experts to schedule and execute training on a timeline to meet necessary study deadlines. This may include scheduling support for the development or training of novel or non‑standard techniques.
  • May serve as a liaison between production project leads, management, study directors, and/or other necessary parties to schedule training during regularly scheduled study functions.
  • Identify potential scientific issues with skill execution and participate in the development of resolutions.
  • Schedule and conduct communication meetings.
  • Schedule studies/staff based on operational departmental needs.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.) required. Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) or equivalent in a biological science, preferred.
  • Experience: at least two (2) years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with eLearning, training and developing of employees, and/or learning system administration.
  • Experience training staff in a CRO environment preferred.
  • Certification/Licensure: Functional certification preferred. Others may be required by local government.
Other Requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently and effectively produce high‑quality results, interpret protocol requirements, troubleshoot quality issues, and record accurate study and departmental data.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform data entry with a high level of accuracy, analyze and troubleshoot technical issues, and manage projects.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing at all levels inside and outside the organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Fluent in English.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities to achieve goals.
  • Computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite), commensurate with essential functions, including the ability to learn a validated system.
  • Ability to ensure that a safe working environment is maintained by observing all safety procedures and working methods by making proper use of protective clothing and equipment, and by reading, understanding, and following all safety documents issued or notified of.
  • Ability to ensure the integrity of the studies and fulfill the regulatory agencies requirements by performing the activities according to, Standard Operations Procedures (SOP), Business Operating Procedures (BOP) and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) rules.
  • Ability to exercise independent decision‑making and self‑manage under the direction of a technical supervisor.
  • Ability to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule to include, but not limited to evenings, weekends, extended shifts, and/or extra shift, sometimes on short notice.
  • Ability to work under specific time constraints.
