Job summary

Howell Public Schools seeks a Part-Time Boys Freshman Basketball Coach for the 2026-27 season. After-school hours typically begin at 2:30 p.m., running through practices and games. Responsibilities include coordinating with the varsity coach, ensuring athlete eligibility, completing required forms, and attending athletic department meetings.

The season spans November 11, 2026 to March 13, 2027. Wages are determined per the HEA Collective Bargaining Agreement, paying 70% of the Head/Varsity Coach

Responsibilities

• Attend all-athletic department staff meetings
• Verify physicals/clearance forms before allowing an athlete to participate in tryouts, practice, or competition
• Collaboratively work with the varsity coach to develop the vision for the program
• Coordinate meeting with Athletic Director for all “new Howell Public Schools” students to ensure eligibility
• Enter scores after each game
• Notify Athletic Office regarding attendance issues – early release/absences for teacher notification and coding in PowerSchool
• Contact Athletic Office for purchase order # before ordering or picking up items
• Learn and abide by all MHSAA, KLAA and HPS policies
• Enter Fundraiser(s) details in Google doc prior to start of fundraiser(s)
• Review Athletic facility and transportation reports for accuracy
• Complete officials’ ratings @ MHSAA before end of season checkout with Athletic Director
• Check weekly email from the Athletic Director
• Schedule facilities
• Coordinate end of the year banquet
• Meet with Athletic Director for evaluation
• Submit roster, GPA checks, Emergency Information, and related documents
• End of Season Check Out electronically
• OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

Duration :

Responsibilities :

• Attend all-athletic department staff meetings;
• Verify physicals/clearance forms before allowing an athlete to participate in tryouts, practice, or competition;
• Collaboratively work with the varsity coach to develop the vision for the program;
• Coordinate meeting with Athletic Director for all “new Howell Public Schools” students to make sure the “educational transfer form” from MHSAA has been completed and the athlete is eligible to compete;
• Enter scores on after each game;
• Notify Athletic Office regarding attendance issues – early release/absences for teacher notification and coding in PowerSchool;
• Contact Athletic Office for purchase order # before ordering or picking up any items;
• Learn and abide by all MHSAA, KLAA and HPS policies;
• Enter Fund Raiser(s) details in Google doc prior to start of fundraiser(s);
• Review Athletic facility report (emailed Thursdays to all coaches) to verify accuracy;
• Review Athletic transportation report (emailed Tuesdays to all coaches) to verify accuracy;
• Complete officials’ ratings @ MHSAA before end of season check out meeting with Athletic Director (varsity);
• Check weekly email from the Athletic Director;
• Schedule facilities;
• Coordinate end of the year banquet with varsity coach;
• Meet with Athletic Director at the conclusion of season to evaluate/review/sign evaluation;
• Must submit the following to the Athletic Director:
  • Tentative roster for GPA checks within first week of practice;
  • Coaches Emergency Information sheet;
  • Affidavit of fitness (for non-paid staff);
  • Team schedule (both tryout and practice);
  • Roster (signed by coach) along with the MHSAA Physical and Participation fee for each team member;
  • End of Season Check Out electronically.
