Job summary

Inova Schar Infusion is seeking an Infusion Pharmacy Technician to join the team. This role will be a PRN weekdays and weekends rotating shifts.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Two (2) years hospital experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
• State-registered Pharmacy Technician in VA or Pharmacy intern license; BLS within 3 months.

Responsibilities

• Handle chemotherapy with zero to minimal exposure to self, others, and environment.
• Calculate patient-specific doses from scratch using mg/m2 or mg/kg dosing.
• Assess and reorder IV admixture/chemotherapy supplies to avoid stockouts and excess inventory.
• Initiate safe disposal of hazardous materials, sharps, and trash without prompting.
• Follow IV Admixture procedures with aseptic technique and complete documentation.
• Prepare IV Admixture and sterile compounding with contamination-free results.

Schar Infusion Pharmacy Technician Job Responsibilities:

• Handles chemotherapy without causing chemotherapy spills, aerosolization of drug or other self, others, or environmental exposures.
• Calculates patient specific doses from scratch based on mg/m2 or mg/kg dosing accurately and consistently with 0 to minimal chemotherapy exposures of self, others, environment.
• Assesses and reorders IV admixture/chemotherapy preparation supplies as appropriate avoiding stockouts and excess inventory.
• Initiates, without prompting, actions necessary to assure safe disposal of all hazardous materials, sharps, and general trash.
• Follows IV Admixture procedures including using aseptic technique in preparation of medication, calculations, maintenance of clean area, and complete documentation.
• Prepares IV Admixture and sterile compounding as evidenced by the lack of contamination in test solutions.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: High School or GED.
• Experience: Two (2) years of hospital experience working as a Pharmacy Technician.
• Certification: Registered Pharmacy Technician in the state of Virginia or a Pharmacy intern license. Basic Life Support (BLS) within 3 months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience: IV or Infusion experience.
