Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. is seeking a Truck Scale Operator to weigh in/out all trucks entering the landfill or transfer station and to issue permits. You will provide accurate billing information and reports to customers and management, and verify haul and disposal accuracy for third-party payments.

You will also dispatch disposal instructions with operators, keep management informed, test scales daily, and support environmental compliance tasks while contributing to a safe, efficient operation.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 1–3 months related experience and/or training.
• Experience with customer service preferred.

• Set up new trucks and issue truck permits.
• Provide accurate and efficient information for customer billing including reports to customers and management.
• Verify accuracy of hauls and disposal for payment of third-party truck hauling.
• Dispatch disposal instructions regarding special waste with operators and Operations Manager.
• Keep landfill management informed on community information related to the landfill.
• Test the scales daily for accuracy.
• Ensure waste disposal is in proper areas (grid reports).
• Accountable for various environmental compliance tasks.

Requirements:

• High School Diploma or general education degree (GED).
• One to three months related experience and/or training.
• Experience with customer service preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Physical/Mental Demands:

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, talk, and hear.
• Visual Requirements: include close vision and distance vision.
• Possess ability to occasionally lift/move up to 10 pounds.

Working Conditions:

• Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions.
• Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes and airborne particles.
• Noise level is moderate to loud.
