Job Summary:

The Scale Operator/Inspector is the first point of contact for suppliers and is responsible for initiating transactions, weighing materials, and inspecting non-ferrous commodities to ensure compliance with company standards and legal requirements. This role ensures accurate documentation, customer service excellence, and material compliance while adhering to safety and operational procedures.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Accurately weigh all incoming and outgoing materials using company equipment.

  • Inspect and identify non-ferrous commodities to determine purchase eligibility.

  • Ensure materials meet quality standards and company specifications.

  • Complete transactions using the computer kiosk system, including gathering required documentation.

  • Stamp approval or rejection on inspected material and prepare inspection reports.

  • Direct suppliers to appropriate locations within the facility.

  • Conduct daily tests of radiation detection systems and report discrepancies.

  • Perform monthly spot checks on scale accuracy and report issues to the Supervisor.

  • Maintain organized records of purchasing and sales tickets.

  • Provide basic price quotes to customers and notify supervisors of any transaction discrepancies.

  • Follow all applicable metal theft laws and maintain legal compliance in documentation.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Business preferred.

  • 1–3 months of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must pass background check, drug screening, and credit check.

  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred but not required.

  • Computer literate with ability to operate digital kiosks and scale software.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
