Job description

We are seeking a Scale Operator/Cashier to play a vital role in our customer service team. This position involves providing timely, friendly, accurate, and safe services within the yard, including ferrous weighing and grading of incoming scrap loads, operating inbound and outbound scales, directing drivers, processing payments, and completing all necessary documentation for both individual and commercial customers.

This role requires working outdoors and indoors in varying weather conditions, adhering strictly to all health, safety, and environmental standards of SA Recycling.

Working hours are Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4:30 pm, and Saturday from 8 am to 12 noon.

Responsibilities
  • Operate truck scales to weigh inbound and outbound trucks effectively.
  • Work the required hours Monday through Saturday.
  • Review, inspect, and document inbound loads.
  • Direct drivers to appropriate yard locations for loading or unloading.
  • Complete all required documentation for vehicle and load movements.
  • Test scales for accuracy and report malfunctions.
  • Process payments and maintain accurate transaction records.
  • Assist customers with pricing questions and maintain customer accounts.
  • Record and process all transactions accurately into the system.
  • Generate invoices and verify weights, prices, and totals.
  • Support the Office Assistant and Weighmaster as needed.
  • Assist with monthly reporting and inventory reconciliation.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1+ years’ experience operating truck scales and cashiering, preferably in scrap metal or similar industry.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively with customers and coworkers.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with good organizational and mathematical skills.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and willingness to learn industry-specific software.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
  • Must pass a credit and background check, drug screen, and physical exam.
Physical Requirements

Work environment includes office, scale office, and outdoor yard. Physical demands involve light to moderate stair climbing, and sensory inputs include verbal, hearing, vision, smell, touch, and taste. Repetitive hand motions and keyboard use are required.
