Job summary

Wayne-Sanderson Farms in North Carolina seeks a weigh station operator to accurately weigh boxes, verify labels, and enter data. You will assist with trailer movements, manage weigh tickets, and uphold animal welfare guidelines in a fast-paced poultry facility.

Responsibilities

  • Weigh loaded trailers and print a weigh ticket.
  • Distribute live haul trailers under a holding shed using yard equipment.
  • Move trailers to be unloaded by a forklift.
  • Return empty trailers to scales to establish tare weight.
  • Enter tickets in a database.
  • Buck and un-buck trailers as needed and in a timely manner.
  • Monitor and operate holding shed fans and fogging system per welfare guidelines.
  • Keep scale office and surrounding areas clean and organized.
  • Occasionally work double shifts if required.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and coworkers across departments.

Job description

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Primarily responsible for weighing boxes of product; ensures accuracy of weight, labels, and codes. Must always use and maintain personal protective equipment, and work in compliance with all company policies, NCC Animal Welfare Guidelines, and local, state and federal policies, laws and regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
  • Weigh loaded trailers in and print a weigh ticket
  • Distribute live haul trailers underneath a holding shed using a yard truck or tractor.
  • Bring loaded trailers around to be unloaded by a forklift.
  • Bring empty trailers back to scales to be weighed out to establish a tare weight.
  • Enter tickets in a database.
  • Trailers are to be “bucked” and “un-bucked” in a timely manner.
  • Stray birds are to be kept up and delivered to the dumper.
  • Holding shed fans and fogging system are to be monitored and turned on or off based on our animal welfare guidelines and the comfort level of the birds being held.
  • Scale office is to be kept clean and orderly as well as helping keep outside (scales, holding shed, etc.) clean and neat.
  • At times this position calls for double shifts
  • Move trailers to and from the bay for the box room
  • Ability to work cooperatively with supervisors, coworkers
  • Must be able to follow directions and work in other departments as needed.
  • Must be able to perform additional duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Ability to work unsupervised and self-motivate.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays and extended shift hours.
  • Sound work ethic, honesty and moral character.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Hatchery or relative poultry industry experience.
  • Basic math functions and skills.
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Follow departmental and company safety policies and programs.
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Stand up to 8 hours.
  • Lift up to 60 lbs.
  • Frequent exposure to heat (incubators are 99.5 degrees Fahrenheit).
  • Exposure to wet and dusty environment.
  • Frequently reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling and crawling.
  • Roll and push buggies (~1,000 lbs.).
  • Frequent lifting of 10-15 lbs.
  • Work around raw, live animal odors.
