PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Hiring Salary: $30.72 - $38.40/hour

OVERVIEW OF POSITION / DEPARTMENT
Aurora Water is responsible for the operation and maintenance of drinking water, sanitary sewer and storm drainage systems, treatment of drinking water and non-potable reclaimed wastewater for irrigation, billing and collection, public outreach and water conservation, acquisition and development of future water rights, major capital projects programs, and quality control for regulatory compliance and public health.
Aurora Water is looking for a
SCADA / OT Technician I for the Technical Operations section of the Support Services division to support and grow our SCADA Operational Technology [OT] team and infrastructure. We’re looking for an empathetic, thoughtful candidate who has enthusiasm for helping people, as well as expertise in scaling our OT systems to meet the water needs of the growing population of the City of Aurora.
The applicant’s starting salary will be commensurate with relevant education, experience, knowledge, certifications, skills, and abilities required for this position and within the hiring salary range.
The City of Aurora will conduct ongoing screenings of applications on a first come first served basis; when there is a pool of qualified candidates this position may close quickly and without notice.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Configure, deploy, and verify functionality of SCADA desktop, laptop, and server hardware
- Develop, modify, troubleshoot SCADA HMI screens using industrial automation software
- Perform continuous maintenance and upgrades to SCADA systems
- Identify, maintain, and troubleshoot HMI components
- Execute daily, scheduled corrective / preventative maintenance and repair tasks
- Use a computerized maintenance management system [CMMS] to document work activity
- Maintain integrity of the SCADA system, in conjunction with and through close coordination with the lead technicians
- Documents changes made to systems or equipment through appropriate communication and record keeping
- Create and maintain respectful and productive working relationships within and across all work groups, ensuring effective collaboration and cooperation
- Attends weekly team meetings and presents safety topic on a rotation basis
- Stays current on technical issues relative to the position
- Ensures proper safety precautions are observed
- Performs other related duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Education:
- High school diploma or GED
- Two [2] years of post-secondary training or education in computers, electronics, industrial automation, or related field
- Associate degree from an accredited college, technical institute, or university in computer science, computer information systems, electronic engineering or a directly related field
Experience:
- One [1] year of work experience in a SCADA / OT network environment
- Experience with water and/or wastewater chemical process, pumps, valves, hydraulics, instrumentation and controls, industrial computer systems, programmable logic controllers [PLC], or intelligent distributed controls
Preferred Experience:
- Two [2] to three [3] years of equivalent work experience in a SCADA / OT network environment
- Knowledge of water and wastewater SCADA systems and processes
- Cisco Certified Network Associate Security [CCNA Security]
Knowledge Of:
- The health, safety and environment policies and procedures of the City of Aurora and Aurora Water
- Safety procedures working around electrical controls and equipment and in confined spaces
- Basic knowledge of local and wide area network environments, network routing and switching, all layers of the Open Systems Interconnection [OSI] model and the protocols within low voltage electrical systems
- Process instruments and industrial networks and protocols
- Programmable logic controllers [PLC]Preventative and corrective maintenance techniques
- Principles and procedures of record keeping
Skills:
- The safe and lawful operation of motor vehicles
- The use of computers and working with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Outlook
- Being punctual, consistent, and dependable
- Distinguishing colors used in electric wiring color-coding
- Speaking, reading, comprehending, and writing the English language
- Checking information for accuracy and completeness and correcting errors

Ability To:
- Establish and maintain respectful and professional working relationships employees, elected officials, and citizens
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair SCADA systems
- Identify, maintain, and troubleshoot HMI components
- Configure and maintain firewalls to ensure security of the SCADA system components
- Safely and skillfully operate hand and power tools and other equipment as needed
- Maintain logs, records, reports, and charts
- Work on a rotating stand-by schedule and / or call-back duty, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Stand-by requires a 45-minute response time to the candidate’s normal place of work
Licenses And Certifications Required:
- Valid Colorado driver’s license with a safe driving record
Physical Demands:
- Occasional medium work requiring the ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to fifty [50] pounds, with or without assistance Continuous time sitting in the same location or standing / walking primarily in a controlled office / facility environment
- Occasional or frequent trips to other Aurora Water work sites or other locations for project work, meetings, training, etc.
- May require frequent pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, and reaching
- Hand / eye coordination for operation of computer keyboard, carts, and moveable shelving
Work Environment:
- Works primarily indoors but may work outdoors with exposure to all weather conditions and high frequency, including: noise, dust, allergens, chemicals, solvents, fumes, smoke, gases, grease, and oil
- May work in confined spaces and at elevated heights
- Exposure to high/medium/low voltage electrical equipment
Equipment Used:
- Uses standard office equipment including personal computers and common office software such as email, Internet browsers, Word, and Excel, and MS SharePointOperates motor vehicle, computers, radios, including 900MHz, 400MHz, and microwave, network switches, routers, and firewalls
- This position may require the incumbent to use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) during their employment
Essential Personnel:
- When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel
