Job summary

SOLV Energy is a leading provider of infrastructure services for the power industry, delivering solar, battery storage, and high-voltage substation projects. We seek an engineer to provide SCADA design, development, and delivery support for EPC projects, with hybrid in-office work in San Diego, CA or Bend, OR, or fully remote.

Responsibilities include programming SCADA servers, configuring data historians, preparing commissioning plans, and ensuring adherence to project schedules and budgets.

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of SCADA engineering experience in renewable energy (industrial or utility scale PV, BESS, or wind)
  • Proficiency with Python
  • Ignition SCADA experience
  • Familiar with PLC environments (Schweitzer RTAC, Allen-Bradley, GE/Emerson RX3i)
  • Experience installing/commissioning SCADA networks (Fiber, RS-232/RS-485, Ethernet)
  • Knowledge of industrial automation protocols (Modbus RTU/TCP, DNP3, OPC UA)
  • Ability to read/develop diagrams and schematics (power, networking, control)
  • Strong communication and coordination with subcontractors and field personnel

Responsibilities

  • Execute design and development of SCADA components and systems for utility-scale renewable energy projects
  • Define and implement product design standards in line with company goals
  • Review project requirements and ensure contractual deliverables
  • Create device points lists, HMI assets, test plans and checklists
  • Program and commission SCADA servers, historians, and HMI systems
  • Review closeout documentation to verify deliverables
  • Provide interim technical support for diverse SCADA configurations
  • Engage in technical discussions with customers and partners
  • Maintain a centralized knowledge base
  • Apply diagnostics to troubleshoot plant monitoring and control systems
  • Coordinate with customers and field technicians for on-site commissioning
  • Learn and apply software/hardware used by the organization
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams for platform development and data integration
  • Provide status reports and support risk mitigation to meet project goals
  • Promote NERC compliance and governance in programming and commissioning
  • Support SOLV Operations center during project integrations and handoffs

Job Description Summary:

Provide Engineering level support in the design, development and Delivery of the SOLV SCADA solution and EPC projects.

This role can be hybrid with regular in office presence in San Diego, CA or Bend, OR or fully remote. Specific location details and expectations will be discussed during the interview process.

Position Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Execute the design and development of SCADA integration components and systems for utility scale renewable energy projects including Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems
  • Work within a team environment to define and implement product design standards and best practices that align with company goals and objectives.
  • Review and implements project-specific requirements for assigned scope.
  • Generate device points lists, HMI mockups & assets, commissioning test plans and completion checklists, utilizing company defined documentation and standards.
  • Program and commission SCADA servers, data historians, and HMI systems.
  • Review project closeout documentation including commissioning documents, as-built drawings, operator manuals and training material to verify all contractual deliverables have been met.
  • Provide intermediate level technical support for diverse SCADA equipment configurations.
  • Participate in technical discussions with customers and partners.
  • Assist with maintaining a centralized knowledge base.
  • Apply diagnostic utilities to aid in troubleshooting of complex plant monitoring and control systems.
  • Coordinate with customers and field technicians for on-site commissioning and installation support.
  • Identify and learn appropriate software and hardware used and supported by the organization.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams where necessary to support platform development and data integration.
  • Provide project status reports to the OTS project management team, support risk mitigation measures as needed to maintain project goals and objectives.
  • Promote and adhere to a culture of NERC compliance and governance with respect to programming and commissioning standards, documentation, reporting, knowledge transfer and training.
  • Support the SOLV Operations center as necessary for project integrations and handoffs.

Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements:
  • 2 - 4 years of SCADA engineering experience (experience working within renewable energyincluding;industrial or utility scale PV solar, BESS,or Winddesired).Proficiency with programming languages including Python.
  • Intermediateworking knowledgeof Inductive Automation’s Ignition SCADA platform.
  • Intermediateworking knowledgeof relational databases, and SCADA applications.
  • Familiarity with industry recognized PLC equipment including but not limited to Schweitzer Engineering RTAC Platform, Allen Bradley Control / CompactLogix platform, GE / Emerson RX3i, or similar “named variable” PLC environments.
  • Familiar with the installation and commissioning of SCADA networks using; Fiber Optics, Serial RS-232 / RS-485, and Ethernet TCP/IP.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial automation protocols including but not limited to; Modbus RTU/TCP, DNP3, OPC UA and DA.
  • Proficiency in reading and developing diagrams and schematics including but not limited to, power system, networking and control, electrical, mechanical and civil layouts.
  • Ability to work with sub-contractors and field personnel.
  • Proficiency with various project management, scheduling, and task management tools.
  • Excellent Communication Skills.
