Job summary

Veolia North America is seeking an Electromechanical Engineer to design, test, and optimize power generation and control systems. You will support diesel and natural gas generators, develop specs, and configure SCADA systems for remote monitoring.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience with industrial or commercial power generation systems.
  • Experience with diesel or natural gas generators, switchgear, ATS, and generator controls.
  • Familiarity with SCADA, industrial networking, and remote monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and support generator systems for commercial/industrial use.
  • Develop electrical and mechanical specifications for generator packages and components.

Job Description
Position Purpose

The Electromechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, evaluation, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and optimization of power generation systems and associated control systems. This role supports the installation, operation, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of electrical and mechanical equipment, including SCADA systems used to monitor and control generator assets. The engineer works closely with engineering, operations, maintenance, vendors, and customers to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient system performance.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities
  • Evaluate, and support diesel and natural gas generator systems for commercial and industrial applications.
  • Develop electrical and mechanical specification for generator packages, switchgear, automatic transfer switches (ATS), fuel systems, cooling systems, and exhaust systems.
  • Design, configure, integrate, and troubleshoot SCADA systems used for remote monitoring, control, Data acquisition, and alarm management.
  • Coordinate SCADA communications using industry-standard protocols such as Modbus TCP/IP, Modbus RTU, DNP3, or OPC where applicable.
  • Review engineering drawings, electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, control logic, and equipment layouts.
  • Perform equipment sizing, load calculations, and system performance.
  • Develop preventative and predictive maintenance strategies for power generation and control systems.
  • Ensure Compliance with applicable electrical, mechanical, and safety standards, including OSHA, NEC, NFPA, and IEEE.
  • Coordinate with customers, contractors, suppliers, and internal teams to complete project safely, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Prepare technical reports, operating procedures, engineering documentation, and commissioning reports.
Work Environment
  • Work will generally be in office environments.
  • Occasional work in active plant environments will be required (which may require the wearing of appropriate PPE, standing and/or walking for long periods of time, and/or carrying/lifting of computer and automation equipment).
Qualifications
Education/Experience/Background
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering,Electromechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 3-5 years of experience with industrial or commercial power generation systems.
  • Experience with diesel and/or natural gas generators, switchgear, automatic transfer switches, and generator controls.
  • Experience with SCADA systems, industrial networking, and remote monitoring applications.
  • Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, OPC, or Ethernet/IP.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, PLC logic, and technical specifications.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to travel to customer or project sites as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with generator manufacturers such as Jenbacher and Wartsila.
  • Experience with PLC programming and SCADA platforms such as Ignitions.
  • Wonderware, AVEVA, Logix5000, FactoryTalk View, or VTScada.
  • Experience using power system analysis software such as ETAP or SKM.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices for industrial control systems (ICS).
  • Knowledge of NFPA, NEC, IEEE, and applicable industry standards.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in industrial facilities, electrical rooms, mechanical spaces, and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to climb ladders, navigate construction or manufacturing sites, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Availability for occasional overtime and travel to support commissioning, startup, testing, or emergency service.
