Job summary

Reading Partners is seeking a Development and Fundraising Capacity Building VISTA to strengthen fundraising systems and campaign infrastructure for a national literacy nonprofit.

You will research prospects, build donor engagement processes, and collaborate with Reading Partners’ regions to create scalable tools and SOPs that outlive the service term. This full-time position includes benefits and a structured training experience in philanthropy and nonprofit development.

Qualifications

• Experience in nonprofit fundraising, prospect research, or donor engagement is preferred.
• Ability to research corporations, foundations, and community partners.
• Strong written communication, project management, and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Assess regional fundraising systems to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Research corporations, foundations, and community organizations and develop prospect profiles.
• Build and maintain prospect and partnership tracking systems.
• Develop standardized outreach and partnership materials.
• Create a donor stewardship framework, calendar, and resources.
• Analyze donor data to strengthen engagement and retention.
• Develop project plans, tracking tools, and resources for campaigns.

Job description

Reading Partners is a national nonprofit dedicated to helping children become lifelong readers by connecting them with community volunteers and evidence-based literacy support. For more than 25 years, Reading Partners has worked alongside schools, families, and communities to expand access to high-quality literacy resources for students in historically underserved communities. As a Development and Fundraising Capacity Building VISTA, you will help Reading Partners strengthen the systems and infrastructure that make our work possible. You will support the development of sustainable fundraising practices, prospect pipelines, donor engagement systems, corporate and community partnerships, and campaign infrastructure. Your work will have a regional reach and create tools and processes that Reading Partners can use long after your service term ends. We are looking for a curious, organized, and collaborative individual who is excited by the intersection of mission and fundraising. Strong candidates will have excellent research, written communication, project management, and analytical skills, with an interest in nonprofit development, philanthropy, education, or community partnerships. Experience with prospect research, fundraising, donor engagement, data management, or corporate partnerships is a plus. During your service, you will gain experience in nonprofit fundraising, prospect research, donor stewardship, partnership development, campaign strategy, data analysis, and national systems building while building a portfolio of work with a national education organization. You will collaborate with colleagues across Reading Partners' regions and develop professional skills and relationships in the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors.

Member Duties

• Assess regional fundraising systems, workflows, and development practices to identify opportunities for improvement
• Research corporations, foundations, businesses, and community organizations aligned with Reading Partners' mission and develop prospect profiles
• Build and maintain prospect and partnership tracking systems and identify opportunities for financial and in-kind support
• Develop standardized outreach and partnership materials for Reading Partners staff
• Create a donor stewardship framework, calendar, and reusable communication and recognition resources
• Analyze donor and prospect information to identify opportunities to strengthen engagement and retention
• Develop project plans, tracking tools, and resources to support fundraising campaigns and annual appeals
• Organize development resources and document repeatable processes, best practices, and standard operating procedures
