Role Summary

The SBA Underwriter/Credit Analyst is a critical function in the SBA loan origination process. The position is responsible for ensuring SBA program eligibility in accordance with SBA underwriting standards and guidelines. The underwriter performs financial analysis and credit underwriting to support loan origination activities for SBA 7(a) and SBA Express loan products, analyzes SBA credit requests, assists with credit approval recommendations, and supports SBA Relationship Managers in completing loan approval packages and quality assurance processes.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Support SBA Relationship Managers in accurate assessment of SBA eligibility as outlined in the most recent SBA SOP
  • Maintain a working knowledge of SBA loan programs
  • Analyze personal and business credit data, financial statements, and tax returns with a sound understanding of financial ratio analysis
  • Request and review accounts receivable and payable aging reports, financial projections, and related reports
  • Prepare and recommend credit packages for management and loan committee
  • Assemble, record, and maintain all credit file data in an accessible and organized manner using shared files and Gesa Credit Union underwriting and record‑keeping software
  • Demonstrate a general knowledge of construction loans and leasehold improvement loans
  • Assist all team members when necessary to meet borrower expectations and department goals
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn and grow within a dynamic and challenging environment
  • Assist SBA management with special projects as assigned
  • Pull and review credit reports for business and personal borrowers/guarantors
  • Participate in outside training, seminars, webinars, and other training to remain current and aware of new growth opportunities
  • Submit SBA‑related forms and documents as needed, including preparing and submitting tax transcripts, submitting borrower data to CAIVRS, and other forms to fulfill SBA department goals
  • Communicate with the borrower to complete SBA forms 1919 and 413 when required
  • Assist SBA Loan Production Assistant/Closer with ordering appraisals, real estate evaluations, market research, UCC searches, environmental reports, and title reports to fulfill underwriting loan requests
  • Review the credit approval document once completed by the SBA Relationship Manager and begin the initial draft in the loan origination system
  • Ensure all credit files include proper documentation and maintain a tickler system for updating financial statements and tax returns
  • Assist SBA Relationship Managers in preparing letters of interest and loan commitment letters
  • Assist SBA Relationship Managers with portfolio monitoring activities including annual loan reviews and problem loan reports
  • Understand and perform Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) functions as applicable to job responsibilities
  • Attend credit union training sessions, conferences, or seminars as approved by supervisor
  • Maintain awareness of state and federal laws, regulations, and Gesa’s member business‑lending policies and procedures
  • Support corporate values, mission, and vision by performing job duties in accordance with bylaws and regulations
  • Protect all sensitive data with the highest standard of confidentiality and professionalism, and consistently display respect for diversity and all levels of knowledge

About You
  • Perform financial statement and tax return analysis and calculate basic financial ratios
  • Provide knowledgeable, professional, friendly service to all members
  • Maintain up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of all credit union products, SBA SOP, services, policies, and procedures
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; strong analytical and research skills
  • Participate in and support a team environment
  • Display respect for diversity, treat people with respect, keep commitments, and maintain a high level of integrity
  • Communicate effectively with supervisor regarding matters of account or lending concern
  • Maintain a positive and professional image through verbal and written communication
Qualifications
  • Four‑year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school preferred but not required, or equivalent experience
  • One to two years of similar or related commercial credit analysis experience preferred
  • Must be able to work under pressure and manage workflow to provide a high level of member service
  • Proficiency with standard office equipment, MS Office, Outlook, and commercial lending platforms
  • Some travel may be required for duties, career development, or responsibilities

Full Salary Range

Richland, WA: $29.90–$49.83

Spokane, WA: $29.90–$49.83

Yakima, WA: $29.90–$49.83

Renton, WA: $36.15–$60.25

Vancouver, WA: $31.80–$53.00
