The Westervelt Company in Thomasville, AL is seeking a Relief Operator I for the Sawmill to learn multiple operator functions and provide relief for breaks and vacations. This full-time position reports to Planer Mill and Sawmill Supervisors and is based in the Planer Mill and Sawmill division.

Responsibilities include routine cleanup, equipment inspections, daily quality checks, and maintaining safe operations by following safety procedures and using safety gear.

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

• Complete routine cleanup and inspections of equipment in mill.
• Know the sizes of rough and finished lumber.
• Required to learn multiple operator functions within the sawmill to provide relief for breaks and vacations.
• Perform daily quality checks.
• Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations and utilizing safety equipment.
• Must be willing to learn various operator jobs within the mill.

• Willing to work any shift including weekends, holidays, or overtime as needed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to lift at least 40 pounds.
• Ability to work from elevated positions using required safety gear and procedures.
• Ability to perform tasks such as lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing and/or pulling for extended periods of time.
• Able to work in a variety of environmental conditions.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma or GED required.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS Preferred Experience:

• Driving and operating a mobile equipment such as front end loader, skid steer or forklift within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Basic computer skills.
• Experience working in lumber or wood products industry and/or manufacturing.
• Experience troubleshooting equipment.
• Sawmill experience preferred.
