Westervelt Lumber is seeking a Relief Operator I at our Thomasville, AL mill to learn and support multiple sawmill operator functions during breaks and vacations. The role requires ability to lift up to 40 pounds, work in a noisy environment, and follow safety procedures.

You will perform routine equipment cleanup, inspect machinery, and support daily quality checks while developing cross-functional skills in the planer mill and sawmill.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

• Complete routine cleanup and inspections of equipment in mill.
• Know the sizes of rough and finished lumber.
• Required to learn multiple operator functions within the sawmill to provide relief for breaks and vacations.
• Perform daily quality checks.
• Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations and utilizing safety equipment.
• Must be willing to learn various operator jobs within the mill.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to perform tasks such as lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing and/or pulling for extended periods of time.
• Able to work in a variety of environmental conditions.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma or GED required.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS Preferred Experience

• Driving and operating a mobile equipment such as front end loader, skid steer or forklift within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Basic computer skills.
• Experience working in lumber or wood products industry and/or manufacturing.
• Experience troubleshooting equipment.
• Sawmill experience preferred.
