Job summary

The Lumber Manufactory is seeking a Process Engineering Manager to lead the design and optimization of material flow across our sawmills and engineered wood facilities. You will own from log intake to finished goods, define equipment strategies, and manage a team of process engineers embedded across mill departments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or equivalent technical discipline.
• 8+ years of process or industrial engineering experience in wood products manufacturing or similar high-volume environments.
• Knowledge of wood breakdown processes, recovery optimization, and grade yield influences.

Responsibilities

• Design and optimize material flow from log intake through finished goods, minimizing handling and queue buildup between operations.
• Develop and maintain mill layouts for sawmills, planer mills, and engineered wood facilities with equipment footprints and flow paths.
• Determine equipment requirements and sequencing to maximize recovery and throughput.
• Evaluate automation/optimization systems (scanning, log/cant/lumber optimizers, PLC-controlled sort lines).
• Lead line balancing and bottleneck analysis across the mill from log deck to shipping.
• Conduct time studies and production flow analyses to establish standard work and shift capacity targets.
• Plan and execute capital projects for mill modernization with minimal downtime; manage vendor selection and commissioning.
• Lead and mentor a team of process/industrial engineers embedded across departments.
