Job summary

The Lumber Manufactory is building cutting-edge, sustainable lumber through modular sawmills. A Process Engineer will own material flow from log intake to finished goods, optimize layouts, and specify equipment to maximize recovery and throughput.

You will work closely with operations, maintenance, and capital projects on modernization initiatives, spending substantial time on the mill floor. You will apply lean principles, perform line balancing, and validate layouts and new equipment on site,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial/Process/Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of process or industrial engineering experience in wood products manufacturing (sawmill, planer mill, LVL, plywood, etc).
  • Hands-on mill layout design and material flow planning, including green end/dry end configurations and sort/stack integration; proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Time study, OEE analysis, and capacity modeling applied to high-volume continuous-flow wood processing.

Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize material flow from log intake through finished goods, minimizing handling and queue buildup between operations.
  • Determine equipment requirements and sequencing to maximize recovery and throughput.
  • Evaluate automation (PLC-controlled sort lines, stackers, kiln tracking) and optimization systems.
  • Perform line balancing and bottleneck analysis across the mill from log deck to shipping.
  • Conduct time studies and production flow analyses to establish standard work and shift capacity targets.
  • Partner with maintenance, production, and capital projects teams to plan equipment installations and mill reconfigurations.
