Job summary

Abbeville Fiber, LLC is seeking a maintenance technician to perform preventative maintenance, routine and non-routine repairs, and troubleshoot machinery to maximize uptime, quality, and productivity.

The role requires reading manuals, following safety procedures, and working with mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems in a safety-sensitive environment.

You will be expected to work various shifts as needed and collaborate with a trades-focused team.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of experience in industrial maintenance, troubleshooting, welding, and pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Responsibilities

  • Replace defective parts of machine or adjust clearances and alignment of moving parts.
  • Align machines and equipment, using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, plumb bobs, and lasers.
  • Repair and lubricate machines and equipment. Assemble and install equipment, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Move equipment using hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks.
  • Position steel beams to support bedplates of machines and equipment, insert shims, adjust tension on nuts and bolts, or position parts, using hand tools and measuring instruments, to set specified clearances between moving and stationary parts.
  • Dismantle machines, using hammers, wrenches, crowbars, and other hand tools.
  • Replace hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders, valves, and hoses.
  • Basic stick welding and oxygen/acetylene torch cutting.
  • Perform repairs and preventative maintenance checks and services in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Troubleshoots mechanical, electrical, air and hydraulic systems.

Description

Summary: Performs preventative maintenance, routine and non-routine repairs, and troubleshoots problems with machinery. Responsible for maintenance, repair, installation, and modification of all sawmill equipment to safely maximize uptime, quality, and productivity. Safety-Sensitive Position: The Company considers this job position to be safety-sensitive in nature based on the position’s job duties and responsibilities and/or the work environment and conditions that the job is performed in or under. This position requires performance of job duties and responsibilities that could result in a risk or direct threat of immediate injury or harm to the employee and his/her co-workers, or others.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Replace defective parts of machine or adjust clearances and alignment of moving parts.
  • Align machines and equipment, using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, plumb bobs, and lasers.
  • Repair and lubricate machines and equipment. Assemble and install equipment, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Move equipment using hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks.
  • Replace defective parts of machine or adjust clearances and alignment of moving parts.
  • Position steel beams to support bedplates of machines and equipment, insert shims, adjust tension on nuts and bolts, or position parts, using hand tools and measuring instruments, to set specified clearances between moving and stationary parts.
  • Lay out mounting holes, using measuring instruments, and drill holes with power drill.
  • Dismantle machines, using hammers, wrenches, crowbars, and other hand tools.
  • Replace sprockets, pumps, machine centers, chains, sheaves, belts with proper alignment.
  • Replace hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders, valves, and hoses.
  • Basic stick welding and oxygen/acetylene torch cutting.
  • Ability to splice and track various size conveyor belts.
  • Perform repairs and preventative maintenance checks and services in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Troubleshoots mechanical, electrical, air and hydraulic systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on tools, repair parts, and equipment.
  • Adjust operating mechanisms.
  • Determines extent of corrective action and repair parts required to correct malfunctions. Reads, understands and applies information contained in company maintenance manuals, technical manuals, policies and common schematic diagrams/drawings.
  • Knows and applies required company safety procedures.

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience:

High School diploma or equivalent and three years of experience in industrial maintenance, troubleshooting, welding, and pneumatic and hydraulic systems, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
