Job Summary: The Saw Operator r uns the log saw and homogenizing furnace and coordinates all metal movements through the saw, homogenizer and into the storage yard in a safe, efficient manner. This is a night shift position from 7pm-7am. 3 days on/4 days off; 4 days on/ 3 days off.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Operates log saw cutting log or billet into appropriate lengths.
• Ensures proper labeling of logs and billets with stamping unit, color codes and production tags.
• Moves cut log and billet into appropriate storage area.
• Loads and unloads logs into appropriate stacks prior to and after completion of homogenization.
• Operates homogenizing furnace.
• Assists Saw Helper roll logs from table to saw area.
• Checks sharpness of saw blades on a regular basis.
• Assists in the starting and stopping of all cast at the cast unit.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
  
  

Qualifications

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent; several years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Other Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write simple reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively to other employees and supervisors.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions furnished in written or oral form.
• Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
• Must possess a valid Forklift Operator’s license and have prior forklift experience.
• Must be able to operate overhead crane.
