Job summary

Precision Castparts Corp. in South Gate, CA is seeking a Level One technician to set up and operate metal band and abrasive sawing machines, cutting stock to specifications with minimal supervision.

You will read travelers, transfer stock by forklift, adjust blade tension, measure work, and stamp data on parts, with a comprehensive benefits package and quarterly bonus eligibility.

  • Measure finished work for conformance to specs.
  • Stamp data on workpieces; palletize finished parts.
  • Replace blades; prepare data sheets of cuts.

Job description

Position Summary

Level One: Sets up and operates metal band and abrasive sawing machines to cut metal stock to dimensions by performing the following duties with minimal supervision.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Reads job traveler for specifications such as material, type, and size of stock, and dimensions to be cut.
  • Obtains and transfers stock to machine by forklift or overhead crane.
  • Installs saw blade and sets blade tension and cutting speed for specified operation.
  • Sets saw blade angle to obtain desired angle cuts.
  • Sets stops and guides to control dimension of cut.
  • Positions and secures stock against stops or in feeding device using straps or chains.
  • Turns valve to start flow of coolant against cutting area.
  • Starts machine and observes operation.
  • Measures work for conformance to specifications.
  • Marks identifying data on workpiece.
  • Replaces finished work on pallets or barrels.
  • Replaces defective cutting blade or wheel.
  • Prepares data sheets of cut material and remnants.
  • Steel stamping letters and numbers on work piece by hammer blow.
  • Other duties assigned

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Experience & Education

One-year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $20.00 to $24.00 US Dollar (USD) Hourly based on a variety of factors. For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company’s Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 1X the Company’s bonus multiple, based on the Company’s performance in the applicable quarter.

  • Employees will receive 80 hours paid time off every year.
  • Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays.
  • Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate in the company's medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance.
  • Employees are eligible to enroll in the Company’s 401(k) plan.
